Illustrator Tutorials

The first video tutorial that I saw from tv.adobe.com talked mainly about the

features of Adobe Illustrator. I learned that you can have any images to be scaled

around and yet still preserve its quality pretty well. I also learned that you can

always make changes to the image at any time. You can also import and export a lot

of different type of programs such as pdf. You can also change the format of the

illustrator very easily such as using mobiles and such. I think that illustrator

provides a lot of great tools used for images especially, so you can make a great

quality picture that is sharp. It is also a great way to your creativity through it.

On the second video it went in more of a detail to the creating a new document

in Adobe Illustrator. When you want to first start a document you must click on print

document to setup the document. You can first name the profile and save it later

but you can also just leave it save it later. In this setup box you can change around

with the document such as selecting how many number of Artboards you want. You can

also modify the paper size such as width and height. You can use different type of

measuring such as pt and inches. If you want to use inches all you need to do is to type

in the number of inches you want such at putting 3in then press tab for it to auto modify

into pts.

There is also a part where you can do bleed which is to set it so that the printing

of the image may go outside of the outline area for a regular print paper. It would help

to spread to the very edge leaving no blank/ white spaces. Which is very clean and a

great quality. There is also advance mode in the setup modification dialogue box which

you can change the color mode.You can also raster effect and change preview mode such

as pixels and defaults. Although there is the advance setting, it isn't really often to be

even used. Usually you would just set the settings to print page and the number of

Artboards you want. But you can see the advance setting with a quick glance on the side

of the dialogue box to show what is the advance setting currently on and to see if that is

whether what you want.

Nameplate- It is like the title of the newsletter, often contains/ has logos of some sort to be recognize by people.

Content (and number of articles and entries)- Content is words that are in a newsletter used to indicate informations. messages and what the newsletter is trying to express.

Table of contents – Is the additional information in newsletter that is used to express/ show information of specific peoples and programs it is also set in order so you can see what category everything is such as using page numbers to indicate it.

Masthead – It is inside of an newsletter and it is used to show the author and other informations about the publisher and people who helped out.

Titles and headers – It is the content in a newsletter where the title, date, quotes, and sometimes graphics of a logo.

Page numbers – To indicate what page the newsletter is currently on usually at the bottom, top or side of a page and often number 1 is not shown but sometimes it can be.

Bylines – To show the person who wrote the article.

Continuation lines – It is used to show where you can find the continuation of the information on a specific topic. Also known as the Jumplines.

Pull quotes – Is a box in an newsletter used to insert a quote so that it can draw readers attention often used with images/ graphics.

End signs -In a box that is at the end of a page or the newsletter to indicate/ show that the topic is not going to be continued.

Photos/illustrations - it is a layout that has drawings, images and informations using charts.

Mailing labels –is often at the back of a page to provide an address so it can be returned.

Peer Review On Brochures

Today we saw some different brochures done by the class. I thought that for the most everyone did a pretty good job. BRlyLegal done by Shawn was very neat to me. I thought that the colors were very well organized and easy to read. Although he had a bit too much images and very little on text and informations. At the same time It was still very creative. He set the images up like it was a collage. The fact that he set the images up like a collage really caught my attention. I also think that since he was the only person that think of it was really kind of new.

Unlike Shawn's brochure, Aliaa had a completely different thing. Hers was quite different and very well detailed. Although her brochure was somewhat really less on images which was fine. But it didn't cause my attention very well. I understand that when she said Model UN didn't really have much images to use. I think her color contrast was okay. It was very easy or too hard to read. Her background was somewhat too dark. Still her brochure was very well organized out.

Now for the most part, I thought that Jennifer's brochure on Sophies was very well done. It was easy to read and really cause my attention. I think that the inside of the brochure, the images she had put was a bit too small but overall it was very well organized. I like the fact that she was the only person who did her brochure like a menu that you see in stores with details and prices. The contact was also very long and detailed. Overall I learned that many students did a really well job on the brochure and that they all had their different imaginations and creativity.

Photoshop and InDesign Lab Reflection

So far we have done 6 Labs in this class related to Brochures. The first lab we did reflected on a lab that was very similar in Visual Design 1. We were doing about working with saturation, hue and other things that are in Photoshop for the first lab we did. Then on the second lab we were working on how to play around with text to see the different effects on what the text can create.On the third lab that we did we learned how to wrap text which is basically like making texts go around a box instead of on it to make it look nice with a format. In the fourth lab we did we learned how to do character styles. Basically it was to help us to save styles we created and we can use it again.

On the fifth lab it was really cool we did it about vanishing. We played around with an image and overlaying stuff using tools. Finally on the sixth lab we did it on a layer in InDesign where we used a previous lab for it. It was how to lock and make layers to be seen or not. But this lab u can't necessarily see it unless it is in InDesign where you can see it on the Layers Panel. These labs helped me to further understand the different tools that are in both InDesign and Photoshop. All the labs we did were mostly focusing on the texts.

These labs we did will help us later in making a brochure because it will make our brochures look better. Such as the wrap text, we can use that to separate the columns better and more organized. These labs will also help us in understanding the concepts of the texts. This will help make the brochure different and unique. Which can also help in applying to different audiences that you have chosen. All of these can be used for the brochure such as pictures. Maybe we can use the lab that we learn and apply black and white, saturation, hue and many more others to the images we might use in this brochure we will be making.

Peer Review

The welcome page has great informations but there really isn't any specific pictures. I'm guessing that he did not have enough time to finish his welcome page. The layout and folder setup is separated into 2 different folders called Design Work and Image Work. The header of this portfolio is good because it contains informations. As for the color scheme it is pretty nice because it isn't too hard to read from and the shade of blue is very nice. My overall impression is that I can clearly see that he has improved every single time as the projects moved on.

His portfolio is also very well organized. But as you moved on towards his portfolio you can see that he didn't have much time left so he didn't really make folders to separate the labs and the projects that he did. I see that he didn't really include all the pictures that we've took outside with out digital cameras for the image work. But it was still great that he had the labs which we played around with in Photoshop by changing images to black and white, saturation, hue and so on. I think that he did a great job converting all the files into pdf so that it was actually able to be opened to see his work. It helped to show his progress in all the labs and projects that he has did and it also shows how much improvement has happened from first semester to the end of the semester.

Better Brochure

This video taught me how to get the size of the image I want to fit my brochure. But not only that it also teaches me how to maintain the quality of the picture. This would help to preserve how the important objects of the pictures to look the same as it originally is. It would help to not stretch the picture too wide or make the important objects to o short and scrunchy which won't look good. Not only that it also helps so that it will satisfied whoever your making the brochure for so that there is no complaints of any sorts. I think this video also taught me some new ways of preserving a picture in the object by first using the lasso tools to select it out and save the layer so that later when you are going to scale the image size it wouldn't affect that object even a bit. It would only affect the items that weren't as important which isn't a big deal. I also think this video will show that to the customers that you know how to use the tools well enough and make a great brochure for them to hang out so that maybe later in the future they might recommend other companies or peoples to ask you to make more brochures that are interesting, new, creative, and unique.

Portfolios- Reflection Blog

The purpose of my portfolio is so that it would be a great advantage for college preparation. This way it would get me an early start for my future. It would also help show that I have done some things that might come in handy. It is targeted towards the college professors and those that will be choosing the students that are qualify to get in. I also think that this would be a great and useful thing for job interviews later on in my life. And it would really help show the customers that I might be having to show them what I may be capable of doing.

For this portfolio I used the programs acrobat pro 9. I also had to use my previous work from first semester to put it into the acrobat. But to do so I had to convert all my files into pdf's because it is used by almost anywhere. So that it would be an easy access to my portfolio. I also used what the teacher had taught us about headers, welcome page and breaking down the portfolio to different parts. Then we basically had to save the portfolios with our name and period.

As for the file size, many were very large and would take a long time to load and save. So to save time and have still great quality of pictures we simply had to streamline the file size. For this process while we had to save the file to pdf there was an option on the top of this windows box that would appear then we would change the image view. Such as press quality, small image size and more.This would help to change image size a lot smaller. Such as from 30mb to about 266kb which you can see is a huge shrink of size. But it still preserves the quality of the picture and its color.

I really wouldn't say that my portfolio is an accurate example of my work so far. I think so because I think that my portfolio is quite empty. I personally think it would be really great if I had more things to add into my portfolio and make it more interesting. So that it would be engaging and make the audience go WOW! but it didn't really turn out as how I thought it should have looked. But I also don't want to add to much into the portfolio causing the file to get much bigger. Since right now my portfolio is already quite big and I want it to be a bit more smaller so it'd be fast to open up from anywhere and still preserve it's quality and color.

Narrative For Portfolio

The purpose of the e-portfolio is so that we can use it later on in our life such as college and job interviews. It would give the college professors and the viewers more to see in us and what we can do so that it gives them more choices as to whether they will pick us or not compared with someone who doesn’t have as much stuff in their portfolio and as organized. This will be carried out throughout your entire life. It will really come in handy because the more information you have on the portfolio and something special that you know they might choose you over someone else. This portfolio should include many things such as things that you have learned during the past classes.

This portfolio will be followed out and carried out throughout your entire life until retirement. It is also used to see progresses that the person made slowly every single time. I want this portfolio to show a bit of my personality. I also think that it is important for the people looking at this portfolio to notice that we all have different ideas and pictures in our mind. Also that everyone has different designs even though it is all the same topic. Although the most important thing is that I really want the colleges to see that I not only participate in normal classes but I want to show that I know some other stuff so they can pick me for the college.
